“Outsourced Wisconsin” Tour Stops in Neenah at Plexus Today

Plexus took public job creation dollars and outsourced jobs

Following the recent revelation that over 11,000 Wisconsin jobs have been outsourced in the past five years, advocates for good jobs are conducting a statewide tour of corporations who are outsourcing while taking public job creation dollars. This Thursday the tour stopped in front of Plexus Corporation headquarters in Neenah, WI.

The news event took place Thursday morning in front of Plexus Corporation headquarters in Neenah.

Community leaders detailed how Plexus outsourced Wisconsin jobs at the same time it took millions in public job creation dollars from Governor Walker’s scandal plagued Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).

WEDC has for years refused to close loopholes that allow corporations to take public jobs money while outsourcing more jobs than they create. The threat of outsourcing is one of the reasons wages are plummeting for manufacturing jobs that remain in Wisconsin.

Plexus Corporation has a long history of outsourcing American jobs. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Plexus sent jobs overseas in 2002, 2008, 2011, 2012. In May 12, 2012 Plexus outsourced 116 jobs from its Neenah facility.

Despite this record of outsourcing, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has given or promised Plexus Corporation $17 million in job creation tax credits.

According to Department of Labor and WEDC records, Plexus has actually outsourced 42 more jobs than it has been paid with public dollars to create.

Dates and Actions

August 24, 2011: WEDC gave Plexus a $2 million jobs credit, but reports no new jobs being created.

May 12, 2012: Plexus outsources 116 jobs from its Neenah facility. (In April 2013 the Department of Labor concludes that Plexus outsourced these jobs overseas, and reaffirms that conclusion in December of 2014).

July 18, 2012: WEDC grants Plexus an enterprise zone tax credit for $15 million. Although  WEDC records indicate Plexus planned to create 350 jobs, so far they have only created 74 jobs.

Scorecard: WEDC has paid or promised $17 million to Plexus, which in turn has outsourced 116 jobs, 42 more jobs sent overseas than created in Wisconsin.

Why are they turning a blind eye to this type of activity. How can they justify giving away so many millions of our tax dollars for nothing while they cut school funding to the bone. Walker is totally dumb when it comes to economics. He should have stayed in college and completed his degree. He might just be a modicum smarter than he now is.
