Advocates, Students & Faculty Call for BadgerCare Fix to Stop UW Cuts

Proponents of using enhanced Medicaid savings to protect UW to present over 35,000 petitions calling for reversal of education cuts

In light of the announcement Wednesday that there is no additional revenue to prevent massive education cuts proposed by Governor Walker, Citizen Action of Wisconsin joined UWGB students and faculty to call on State Senators Robert Cowles, Dave Hansen, Frank Lasee and Roger Roth to prevent cutting the UW System by accepting federal funds for BadgerCare.

Advocates have collected over 35,000 petitions to present to the Legislature which call for preventing $300 million in proposed UW cuts by accepting enhanced federal Medicaid funds for BadgerCare. That budget change would save Wisconsin $345 million over the next two years.

Wisconsin is the final holdout of the Great Lake states on accepting federal Medicaid funds.
