Governor Walker is currently denying over 87,000 Wisconsinites from BadgerCare by rejecting billions of dollars in federal health care funds for the program. This decision, which can be overturned by the Legislature at any time, endangers lives and denies needed funds to Wisconsin communities.
New state data released this week reveals the the negative impact of rejecting these federal funds, $561 million in the current and the next state budget. In addition, a report from Citizen Action of Wisconsin found that private insurance rates are needless higher than other states because of the rejection of Medicaid dollars for BadgerCare.
Numerous counties have passed referendum questions for the November election on this issue. As of August 25th, over 2.7 million Wisconsin residents will see this question on their ballots. Right now advisory referenda are on the ballot in the following counties: Florence, La Crosse, Dane, Iron, Lincoln, Douglas, Milwaukee, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Outagamie, Chippewa, Rock, Jefferson, Portage, Wood, Oneida, St Croix, Bayfield and the City of Kenosha. We believe the people should make this decision directly.
