SIGN the petition: Say Yes to BadgerCare!

It's time for the priorities of Wisconsin residents to be put first! It's time to say yes to accepting the federal funds for BadgerCare. New state data reveals failing to accept the federal funds will cost Wisconsin $1.07 billion in general purpose revenue (GPR) by end of 2021.

More and more Governors are taking the enhanced federal Medicaid dollars. Fortunately, Wisconsin can still reverse this decision and accept the federal funds for BadgerCare.

Many people here cannot afford to buy insurance on the Marketplace. People who make 101% or 125% the official poverty rate are still poor. Wisconsin already pays more to Washington than it gets back, so it’s only right that we take the federal funds for Medicaid. Not only will it help more people get health care, but it will put more money into the state’s economy and help create more jobs.

Affordability – low deductible plans are more than $500/month in Barron County – that means I need to spend 1/3 of my income (working full-time) to have health coverage. I used to have a high deductible plan at $360/month and utilized an HSA; even when working full-time I was unable to meet the conditions of my monthly payment plan to cover the bills I incurred due to the high deductible.

After accepting Medicare dollars in Wisconsin, we need to get SE Wisconsin medical costs lowered. We need to expose facilities that are charging too much. I personally would like the cost of services easily available to patients. I had a simple persistent cough after a cold. All I needed was prescription cough syrup and I paid $350. An office visit by my former doctor was $450 my new doctor is $350 and I don’t see a difference in the level of service. Clarity in the prices of emergency care, urgency care and office visits.

Wisconsin needs to accept federal money for Badger Care. Low income families cannot afford premiums and remain uninsured. All people are entitled to health care.

Proper health is a basic human right. Healthcare should be paid for by the government in full so that it’s free for the citizens. Universal healthcare is the way to go. Most other 1st world countries already have this. If America is so great, why are we so far behind?
