Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Public School's Superintendent, and Hunger Task Force Call For Full Funding For Child Nutrition

Wisconsin Students Face Critical Deadline Which Could Cut off Funding for School Meal Programs

Today, August 26th, Citizen Action of Wisconsin joined Congresswoman Gwen Moore, MPS Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver and Hunger Task Force to call for full federal funding to the critical child nutrition programs set to expire in September.

Federal child nutrition funding is critical for supporting school lunches, summer meals and countless other programs which help ensure that our children and families can grow and prosper. More than half a million Wisconsin children rely on subsidized school lunches, breakfasts and/or summer meals. If Congress does not act by September 30th these critical programs will expire.

The event was held at the Merrill Park summer meal site for local children and called on Representatives Paul Ryan, Jim Sensenbrenner, Glenn Grothman and Senator Ron Kind to put aside partisan bickering and work together to ensure that children across Wisconsin are not forced to go hungry.
