Counties For BadgerCare

Counties from across the state have passed or are considering resolutions calling on the Legislature to overturn Governor Walker’s rejection of billions in federal funds for BadgerCare.

Counties understand pushing costs on to others. They have seen hospitals have to shift costs when dealing with the uninsured, they have seen what happens when mental health and substance abuse treatments won't be covered by anyone else.

Counties voting as of 6/12

The counties which have acted on BadgerCare resolutions are regionally and politically diverse, representing both red, blue, and purple areas of the state.  In each of the resolutions counties call for the legislature to accept federal funds for BadgerCare as part of the Affordable Care Act, or to partner with counties interested in taking the money (similar to the way the highly successful long term care program Family Care is structured).

Nine Wisconsin counties have passed resolutions so far, with more considering it. By population, these 9 counties represent over one third of the total population of the State of Wisconsin
