Last April, the Walker's Administration rubber stamped a merger between two of the five largest health insurers in the U.S., Humana and Aetna, a move that could have raised health insurance costs and threatened the over 3,000 jobs in Green Bay, jobs that could be outsourced to other states.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin held events, calls, actions and turned out for an official public hearing to challenge this mega-merger, but Walker's Insurance Commissioner ignored us completely. But, the national coalition of consumer groups we joined just succeeded this week in convincing the US Department of Justice to seek to block the merger!
As Attorney General Loretta Lynch said: "if these mergers were to take place, the competition among these insurers that has pushed them to provide lower premiums, higher quality care and better benefits would be eliminated."
We want to thank you and all of those who worked so hard to protect Wisconsin consumers and workers from big insurance companies seeking to further rig the health care system! Please take a moment to add your name to thank our coalition partners at the Coalition to Protect Patient Choice, the US Department of Justice officials and both Wisconsin State Representative Eric Genrich and State Senator Dave Hansen for their efforts to protect jobs and consumers!
