Today marks an historic advance in American freedom. As the first open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act comes to a close, despite all the bumps in the road, more than 10 million Americans now have quality health coverage that can not be taken away by insurance companies.
I want to thank every Citizen Action member for helping make this day possible!
Here in Wisconsin this victory is bittersweet because Governor Scott Walker is needlessly forcing 77,000 low income Wisconsinites off Badgercare, increasing the deductibles they have to pay by over $26 million per year! This will force our most hard pressed neighbors and friends to choose between health coverage and rent, food, and child care for their kids.
As we take a moment to recognize the great advance we are making this week, we also must rededicate ourselves to overturning Walker’s unethical and politically motivated attack on the working poor. I am asking you to affirm your commitment to winning affordable health care for everyone in Wisconsin by making a tax deductible contribution to Citizen Action of Wisconsin Education Fund.
The new health coverage guaranteed this week is a victory that every Citizen Action of Wisconsin member played a part in. In addition to the coverage, America is investing $10 billion in tax subsidies to make it more affordable, our nation’s biggest new investment in freedom and opportunity since the 1960s.
It is clear that conservatives and Scott Walker will stop at nothing to sabotage ObamaCare. Wisconsin is dead last in the nation in educating the public about the new health coverage options.
The question is not what Scott Walker will do, but whether we progressives have the moral courage to keep up the fight until health care is firmly established as a right!
Citizen Action will never give up the fight until everyone has somewhere to go to get good and affordable health care.
Now more than ever, we need you to stand with us by making a tax deductible contribution to Citizen Action of Wisconsin Education Fund.
This is not about them, it is about us. It is a test of our moral resolve to see the fight through.
We know what Scott Walker and the far right will do. We know that they will continue to use use every shameless propaganda tactic, and every lever of power they have, to deny Americans the freedom to control their own health decisions.
The real question is do we have the stamina and the resolve to keep fighting until everyone in America has access to good affordable health coverage no matter what? Do we have the moral fiber to make sure no one ever again in America is denied or thrown off their health coverage because they have a preexisting condition?
I personally pledge to you that Citizen Action will continue to lead the fight, and with your help we will prevail.
Can I count on you to see the fight through to the end? Now more than ever, we need you to stand with us by making a tax deductible contribution to Citizen Action of Wisconsin Education Fund.
