Citizen Action and One Wisconsin Now win the first lame duck case, blocking GOP early voting restrictions

Citizen Action is again making headlines across the state.

Thursday Citizen Action and our partners, including One Wisconsin Now, won an injunction from a federal judge blocking the early voting restrictions put in place by the Lame Duck Legislature and Governor Walker!

We all know why Scott Walker and the GOP Legislature took aim against voting rights. We have a political party in the United States that has decided it’s completely OK to hold on to power by reducing the number of people who are voting.

That’s why it is so important that you join Citizen Action Organizing Cooperative to help lead the change we want to see in Wisconsin. Now more than ever we need smart and effective grassroots organizing to back up our new Governor as we fight to take back Wisconsin democracy!

The ruling by Judge Peterson rejected all of the arguments offered by the Republicans.

“This ruling is a major victory in the battle to protect and expand voting rights in Wisconsin,” said Robert Kraig, Executive Director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. “It is our hope that the constant political attempts to erect artificial barriers to voting will become a thing of the past, so we can work together to assure that everyone in Wisconsin has unfettered access to the ballot box.”

“Today’s (Thursday) court ruling is a victory for the citizens of Wisconsin and a rebuke to their defeated former governor and his cronies in the state legislature,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr., 82nd Attorney General of the United States. “Every voter in the state should be asking one question: why are Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature so afraid of the people they claim they want to represent? Though we are heartened by this decision we will continue to fight any further efforts designed to undermine democracy in Wisconsin or any other part of our nation.”
