What Virginia Loss Means for Wisconsin
Political pundits are proclaiming the Republican win in Virginia dooms Democrats in 2022, but they have learned the wrong lesson.
In reality, a retread corporate Democrat provided nothing of substance to mobilize the Democrat base while Republicans primed their base to a frenzy with the latest version of dog whistle racism.
Virginia shows that to beat Ron Johnson in 2022, we need an exciting progressive candidate to inspire and mobilize the Democratic base on bold policies that will improve their lives.
That is why we need your help. At Citizen Action, we are pushing the many Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate to take clear progressive stands, with the hope that we can make one of the candidates rise above the rest and earn our endorsement. This month, on November 16th at 6pm, we are holding a U.S. Senate candidate forum as a part of our endorsement process. Register to attend forum now!
The last two elections have proven that Trump-style division generates an extremely high turnout in the GOP base. This has made election outcomes far more about turnout than persuading a shrinking number of so-called “swing voters.”
But too many Democratic political consultants are giving their candidates the out-dated advice to tack to the middle and avoid big issues. The best way to match the GOP turnout surge in this new political terrain is to inspire progressive candidates who make politics matter again.
Citizen Action is pulling out all the stops to push the major candidates for U.S. Senate to publicly commit to bold action on health care, climate change, racial and economic equity, unions, college affordability, and all the big issues that will actually improve people’s lives and life prospects. Attend our candidate forum on Tuesday, November 16th, 6pm-8pm
If you agree with us that nominating a careful middle of the road Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate will risk repeating the Virginia disaster in Wisconsin, please make a donation to Citizen Action’s movement politics fund.
Standing up for Change, a Rally for Climate Justice at UWL
Join Citizen Action Driftless Co-op for a rally and press event to demand that UWL becomes a leader in the fight against climate change on Monday December 11th at 11:00 AM in front of the clocktower. We are calling on UWL:
- To hire a sustainability coordinator
- Create a Climate Action Plan
- Invest in solar and divest from fossil fuels
Speakers from UWL and the community will be on hand to speak at our press event. Signs will be available. Students are also encouraged to make homemade signs in support of climate justice. After the press conference we will be marching as a group to drop petition signatures off with UWL administration. You can get involved by attending the rally, telling your story at the event, marching, or by making signs.
We will be meeting at the clock tower starting at 10:30. This will be an outdoor, COVID safe, event. Masks are highly encouraged.
Listen to the new “VIP Club” This is NOT that podcast
October comes to a close, and Halloween wasn’t too bad, if a little light on the tricker or treaters. This week’s discussion touches on several issues which stubbornly persist in Wisconsin, but they all revolve around a similar theme. Classism, systemic and targeted inequalities, and the need to ensure that your own place in society’s VIP club is never relinquished.
Register to attend Citizen Action of Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate Candidate Forum on November 16th, 6pm.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin is proud to host an online 2022 U.S. Senate Candidate Forum on Tuesday, November 16th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
This forum is an important part of our endorsement process. As a member of Citizen Action of Wisconsin, this is your opportunity to ask questions to the U.S. Senate candidates. All attendees will have the opportunity to provide their feedback on their preferred candidate.
This election is critical to building our people power and moving our collective people centered agenda forward. The fate of our democracy, our ability to defeat climate change and create a society where all are welcome, is on the line.

“Union Strong” Battleground Wisconsin Podcast
We welcome Wisconsin State AFL-CIO president Stephanie Bloomingdale to discuss the wave of strikes, and the willingness of workers to take on their exploitative corporate employers. Next the panel digs into the end game in passing the long delayed Build Back Better bill. Is Manchinema finally relenting on behalf of their corporate bosses? The media is making apocalyptic predictions for 2022 because of the loss in the Virginia Gubernatorial contest. What happened, and is the sky really falling on the Biden presidency? And what does the failed school board recall in Mequon mean for the GOP’s new parent backlash tactics? Finally, we check in on the progress of the “big lie” in Wisconsin, with the GOP witch hunt targeting the Wisconsin Election Commission’s administrator and bi-partisan board. Does it even matter what the facts are? (spoiler alert, no)
