Citizen Action is organizing a Congressional Week of Action

There is still an excellent chance of passing generational reforms we have been seeking for decades, such as a full scale climate change response, the Child Tax credit that cut child poverty 50%, and universal Pre-K. But this can only happen if the progressive grassroots back up President Biden by keeping the pressure on Congress.

Citizen Action is therefore joining our allies in 31 states in organizing a Week of Action in support of our 2022 Congressional agenda. Along with our national network People’s Action, we are organizing virtual lobby visits to Wisconsin members of Congress so they can hear stories from their constituents about how important immediate action is on the agenda in the former Build Back Better legislation. Sen. Manchin is willing to move on major pieces of the agenda and we want our members of Congress to support immediate action.

Join us and tell your member of Congress why we must act now!

RSVP before Tuesday, Feb 8th and attend a virtual lobby training. To RSVP contact your regional Coop organizer or email: [email protected]

Citizen Action endorses Marina Dimitrijevic for Milwaukee Mayor in the February 15th primary.

The endorsement, which was decided by Citizen Action’s 22 member Board of Directors, was made after a rigorous process that included a virtual candidate forum, a questionnaire, and extensive engagement of candidate records and positions.

The majority of the board judged Marina to be the candidate most committed to moving Milwaukee forward in a boldly progressive direction. She is especially strong on Citizen Action’s top issue in Milwaukee: initiating a large-scale geen conversion that dramatically reduces greenhouse gas emissions while creating tens of thousands of family supporting union jobs, especially for communities locked out of economic opportunity.

Citizen Action is also impressed with Marina’s other progressive policy commitments, including defending Milwaukee Public Schools from attacks by GOP legislators, challenging the shocking health disparities that plague our city, and doing the right thing during the ongoing fight against COVID.

“Marina Dimitrijevic, more than any other candidate, understands that responding boldly to the climate crisis is a moral necessity that promises huge economic benefits to the working people of Milwaukee,” said Robert Kraig, Executive Director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. “The era of deindustrialization and inequality that began in the 1970s has been devastating to Milwaukee, turning one of the most prosperous cities in America to a city with some of the worst economic and racial disparities. Milwaukee has a tremendous opportunity to make the economic changes needed to prevent a climate catastrophe and for the first time in decades create thousands of good union jobs for Black, Brown, and white workers locked in the low wage economy.”

Marina is also endorsed by many of our progressive affiliates and allies: Voces de la Frontera, AFT Local 212, The United Auto Workers, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1473, Women Lead Wisconsin, Teamsters Local 200, Teamsters Local 344, and a majority of the members of the Milwaukee School Board.

In The Wash: A Virtual Workshop about Water Quality in Wisconsin

 Thursday, February 24, 2022 6:00 PM –  8:00 PM

Whether we live on 100 acres in Vernon County or in the heart of Milwaukee we all need, and deserve, clean, fresh water. Water is life! Unfortunately, Wisconsin water is under attack from lead pipes, factory farming, PFAS pollution, and fossil fuel companies. Our water must remain clean for our outdoor recreation and our in-home use! You can help protect our water by joining us for our “In the Wash” interactive, virtual event.

RSVP now so you can receive the link to join.  We will be hearing from local elected officials from across the state, from Water Defenders who have fought to protect water on indigenous land, an expert on the impact factory farming has on local water tables, and from everyday Wisconsinites like you who have been impacted by water contamination.

You will walk away from this event with actions you can take RIGHT AWAY to help protect Wisconsin waters!

Listen to “Wisconsin is key to fraudulent Trump electors” Battleground Wisconsin Podcast

We discuss what’s next for the Build Back Better agenda and breaking news on Citizen Action’s upcoming Congressional Week of Action. The panel talks about a bombshell New York Times report that Wisconsin was at the epicenter of the plot to send fake electors, a key piece of Donald Trump’s insurrection plot. In the Legislature this week Republicans introduced a series of bills to rig future elections, while Senate Minority Leader Janet Bewley announced her retirement. We close with an interview of Marina Dimitrijevic, Citizen Actions’ newly endorsed candidate for Milwaukee Mayor.
