Take Action for clean air and sustainable growth in Racine County

Citizen Action of Wisconsin is calling on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to protect Racine County from the harmful impacts of proposed methane gas plants tied to Microsoft’s Mount Pleasant data center. These projects conflict with Wisconsin’s Clean Energy Plan, which aims for carbon-free electricity by 2050, and would lock the state into decades of fossil fuel emissions. Diesel generators at the data center would exacerbate air pollution in a county already struggling with high asthma rates and poor air quality. Citizen Action is urging the DNR to deny permits for these projects, evaluate cumulative pollution impacts, and require Microsoft to pursue zero-emission alternatives like solar and battery storage. Clean air and sustainable growth are critical for Racine County’s health and future.

Join Citizen Action North Side Rising’s Campaign for a 2% Utility Rate Cap

Imagine a Wisconsin where everyone can afford to heat their homes in the winter, cool them in the summer, and never have to worry about losing power because they can’t pay their utility bills. This is the Wisconsin we’re fighting for—a place where energy is affordable, accessible, and green, ensuring that all households are protected from the financial burden of high utility costs.

The Problem
Wisconsin’s energy landscape is controlled by monopoly utility companies, which prioritize profits for shareholders over the needs of our communities. The burden of these corporate profits falls squarely on Wisconsin families. On average, Wisconsin households spend 6% of their income on energy bills, but low-income families face an even greater strain, often exceeding 10% of their income just to cover utility costs.

The Solution: A 2% Rate Cap
Citizen Action of Wisconsin is leading a statewide campaign to implement a 2% rate cap on utility bills. This cap would ensure that no household pays more than 2% of their income on energy costs, offering much-needed relief to families who are struggling under the weight of constant rate increases.

How YOU can get involved!
Citizen Action North Side Rising has upcoming actions regarding energy. On January 3, 2025, NSR will meet in front of the WE Energies office to protest their ongoing rate hikes. We are meeting at Ziedler Park, 301 W Michigan St, 1pm. We need you and your friends to come.

On December 10th NSR will make a presentation for the MPS Parent and Community Engagement Forum. It is at the MPS Administration Bldg, 5225 W Vliet St, 5:30pm. The presentation will focus on the Milwaukee Public Schools Green Futures Committee: Strategic Plan for Sustainability and Funding. These federal funds are only available to us through building a coalition of stakeholders that include parents, educators, paraprofessionals, community leaders and students.

If you keep doing what you are doing, you keep getting what you are getting.  If you don’t like what you are getting, change what you are doing. Listen to this to inspire you!
