Milwaukee:  Milwaukee lawmakers and leading social justice and environmental groups will unveil new legislation to hold the Legislature accountable for meeting international greenhouse gas reduction targets at the Washington Park Urban Ecology Center on Monday at 11 AM.

Runaway climate change threatens our children’s future and the environment we love. This is the first legislation in Wisconsin to require concrete and comprehensive greenhouse gas reductions at the pace and scale required.

There is an overwhelming consensus of climate scientists that the best chance to avert runaway climate change is to cut carbon emissions in half by 2030. This is an achievable goal that will both limit climate change and reduce the crushing cost of electricity and heat for local residents.

The Climate Accountability Act, is sponsored by State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde in the Assembly and State Senator Chris Larson in the Senate.

Social justice and environmental groups supporting the bill include 350 Wisconsin, Sierra Club-Wisconsin Chapter, Union of Concerned Scientists, Faith in Place, and Citizen Action of Wisconsin.
