Eric Genrich

Citizen Action Northeast WI Co-op member, Eric Genrich, was endorsed by the Citizen Action of Wisconsin in his race for mayor of Green Bay. Eric is a former state representative and a founding member of the Northeast co-op.

Eric was a leader on expanding access to healthcare in the legislature, co-sponsoring the BadgerCare Public Option bill that is now supported by Gov. Tony Evers and would open BadgerCare healthcare coverage to more individuals and small business.

As mayor Eric will invest in renewable energy projects to power Green Bay and provide good jobs in the green economy for Green Bay’s workers.

Eric Genrich is being challenged by a conservative opponent. The seat is open and an excellent opportunity to elect a progressive leader mayor of Green Bay.

Rural Wisconsin is in big trouble

Rural Wisconsin is in big trouble. Wisconsin farmers are beset with ongoing low prices and loss of vital foreign markets (Trump’s trade wars). The state has lost over 700 family dairy farms in an economy that isn’t working. And, the resultant economic fallout is threatening small towns. Community banks, family businesses and local health care providers will be hit hard, including rural hospitals.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin is excited to announce Fabi Maldonado as our new Greater Milwaukee Co-op Organizer.

Fabi has strong progressive values and is dedicated to movement work stretching from resisting at Standing Rock – sacred grounds, to leading the $1 decriminalization of cannabis efforts in his hometown of Racine, which is now spreading throughout the state.

Fabi is committed to tackling injustices rooted in social, racial, and economic issues, and will work to include more of our allies in our diverse communities in the Co-op, as well as continue to build and support strong, progressive people power with Greater Milwaukee Co-op members. Read More

Trump’s unmet promises

Candidate Trump made many promises in 2016, mostly unmet. His tax cuts largely helped big business and the wealthy, not regular folks. And, the Trump alternative to the Affordable Care Act was to repeal, with no replacement. Trump also pledged massive infrastructure spending. Empty words, despite much of the nation and Wisconsin in disrepair. The American Society of Civil Engineers’ infrastructure report gave a D+ to the U.S. And, it rated Wisconsin: 8.7 percent of bridges are “structurally deficient”, 27 percent of roads in “poor condition”, and over $7 billion needed for drinking and wastewater infrastructure.

Northeast Co-op Asks Senator Feyen to Support BadgerCare Expansion

State Senator Feyen held a town hall on Monday Feb 11 in Fond du Lac County, which the Northeast organizer, Jolie Lizotte, and a couple constituents from Oshkosh attended to ask the Senator to support expanding BadgerCare in the state budget. The Senator is not staunchly opposed to the expansion so we will continue to lobby him this spring to persuade him to vote for it. We also asked him if supported overturning Citizens United (he does not) and if he supported nonpartisan redistricting (he does not).

Upcoming Event: Appleton BadgerCare Expansion Campaign Strategy Session

Tuesday February 19 7-8:30pm at the Appleton Public Library Room A

The goal for this strategy session is decide how we want to implement the Medicaid Expansion campaign in Northeast Wisconsin – what will our local tactics be and what is our anticipated timeline – as well as to answer any questions folks may have about the state budget process and why we want to win on this issue. I am looking into having a video conference option for folks who live outside of the Appleton metro area and if we are able to do that I will send a follow up email with that information.
