Citizen Action launches new radio and digital ads in support of expanding BadgerCare!

Citizen Action is turning up the public heat on the Republican legislators who are standing in the way of Governor Evers’ plan to expand BadgerCare to 83,000 working people. To intensify the impact of our grassroots organizing, Citizen Action launched a statewide radio and digital ad campaign this week.

Citizen Action co-op members flood UW-Green Bay Joint Finance Committee public hearing this Wednesday.

Over 30 Citizen Action co-op members traveled from all over Wisconsin to attend the final opportunity for the public to submit testimony to the official budget writing committee for the state legislature. Over 20 members testified at the hearing, including the new mayor of Green Bay, Eric Genrich – a founding member of the Northeast co-op.

Members came from: Oneida County, Lincoln County, Langlade County, Wood County, Brown, Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet, Door, Milwaukee, and Marathon County.

It was striking that nobody came to any of the 4 public hearings to testify against accepting the federal money for expanding BadgerCare. There were over 200 people who spoke in favor at the hearings. In addition, new MU Law poll found 70% support for accepting the federal money.

Governor Tony Evers and Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes continue listening to the people

Governor Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes continued their state budget listening sessions this week in Oshkosh and Milwaukee. The events have been very well attended by the public. Each listening session breaks out into different issue areas to discuss in greater detail. Gov. Evers and Lt. Gov. Barnes spend most of their time listening to different groups.

At this week’s Oshkosh listening session the healthcare breakout group was huge. What was striking in the health care breakout was the hunger for bold reform. In addition to BadgerCare Expansion, people called for a BadgerCare Public Option, Medicare for All, and other big reforms. There is incredible energy out there for transforming the entire health care system and we have a Governor now who actually listens to average citizens.

Please contact your state legislator today to urge them to accept the federal money. Tell them the public has spoken clearly and loudly at the public hearings and in the polls that they support expanding BadgerCare.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) refuses to let Medicare for All come to a vote. We demand that Mitch do what’s right for his constituents and the country – for once, and for all. We’ve fought hard to defend the care we have. It’s time to claim the care we deserve.

Wisconsin Democrats holding BadgerCare expansion public hearing

Wisconsin Democrats are visiting various parts of Wisconsin to discuss Medicaid expansion. These town halls will present the facts about Medicaid expansion and allow for questions from attendees. Each event is free and open to the public. Speakers will include Democratic legislators, Administration officials, and health care advocates. Citizen Action Co-op Members sworn in on Eau Claire City Council

Last week, members of the Eau Claire City Council were sworn into office. Five Citizen Action co-op members serve on the city council, including newly elected Laura Benjamin. Laura is the first transgender lawmaker to be elected to public office in the state of Wisconsin! She along with members Andrew Werthmann, Kate Beaton, Catherine Emmanuelle, and Jeremy Gragert are planning on demonstrating progressive leadership for the city of Eau Claire!

The Milwaukee Civil Rights Bus Tour will inform and educate participants in ways that give deeper meaning to Milwaukee’s social justice issues, by highlighting the history of the Black experience and its impact on current realities, for Milwaukee’s Black Community.

Participants will travel through Milwaukee neighborhoods to learn more about the people, the places and the moments that shaped the current state of our city.

“Winning: Emily Siegrist’s 2020 vision” Battleground Wisconsin Podcast

We welcome Citizen Action co-op member Emily Siegrist as a guest panelist and to announce her 2020 campaign for state assembly in a suburban Milwaukee district. Emily ran a great grassroots campaign for assembly in 2018 and is preparing to challenge Rep. Knodl again and win. Emily hopes to be joined by a slate of other progressive legislative candidates who run to win. We also discuss the Joint Finance Committee public hearings on the state budget wrapping up this week in Green Bay and Foxconn’s requested change in their contract with Wisconsin.
