Citizen Action Brings Talented Staff on Board
By Robert Kraig, Executive Director
I am excited to announce that Citizen Action has hired an exceptionally qualified new organizing director to take the helm of our grassroots campaigns during this critical election year and beyond. As her current organization has not had the opportunity to notify their key stakeholders, we will not be able to publicly announce her name until the next edition of Citizen Action Weekly, so please stay tuned.
I am also excited to announce that former Citizen Action organizing director Kevin Kane is returning in a new role that will build further power in Wisconsin and nationally. As you may know, Kevin is the lead founder of the Citizen Action of Wisconsin Organizing Co-op model which has helped us expand our grassroots power statewide and drawn substantial national attention.
Kevin will be working with our national affiliate, People’s Action and Citizen Action to launch a first of its kind incubator for organizing co-ops in Wisconsin and across the country.
To begin that project, Kevin will be temporarily leading Citizen Action’s first and founding co-op, the Greater Milwaukee Organizing Co-op, to work closely with co-op leaders to build large scale electoral capacity in the 2018 elections and build the strength of our issue campaigns.
Our goal is to build on the successes of the Milwaukee co-op and take its impact to the next level, creating a “second generation” co-op model that can be used for new co-ops in Wisconsin and exported to People’s Action affiliates in other states. Future People’s Action state affiliates that may adopt our Wisconsin grown co-op model include Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and others.
An additional advantage of this will be that the Milwaukee co-op will be able to take full advantages of Kevin’s strategic planning and organizing skills to make a major impact in the 2018 elections. Kevin is excited to help members organize to change the state!
