Mireya Mercado Starts as Citizen Action’s New Digital Media & Community Outreach Organizer

Mireya Mercado is an organizer with a digital communications and public relations background who will work to amplify Citizen Action’s social media presence, and the role of directly impacted people in our campaigns. Mireya has worked on various electoral and issue campaigns. She also led student efforts at Marquette University to ensure equitable representation of students of color on campus. She recently completed a fellowship at NextGen where she mobilized the youth vote on her campus. Mireya looks forward to utilizing digital tools and direct organizing to highlight our fight for equitable access to health care for all. Her principal focus this year will be recruiting and average people with health care stories to impact the fight for guaranteed affordable health care. Read More

On a media call on Oct 31st, Citizen Action of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses & Health Professionals released a new analysis which has major implications for the high profile health care debate in the 2018 election. We were joined on the audio news conference by State Senator LaTonya Johnson and State Rep. Chris Taylor. Listen to the entire audio here.

The analysis, based on just released federal data crunched by Citizen Action, shows that Governor Walker’s refusal to build on the Affordable Care Act is forcing Wisconsinites to pay thousands more for health insurance on the individual market. Citizen Action of Wisconsin members have been working to inject health care into Wisconsin elections for over a decade, and started campaigning on the dominant wedge issue of pre-existing conditions discrimination in the 2012 election cycle, and every election cycle moving forward.
