Little About us
Citizen Action of Wisconsin is an issue focused coalition of individuals and organizations committed to achieving social, economic, and environmental justice.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin organizes people to make Wisconsin a better place to live and work. Citizen Action employs an integrated strategy of grassroots organizing, public education, earned media, professional research, voter engagement, and political lobbying to advance progressive values and shape the public and political debate around health care, economic development, and consumer protection. Every year, Citizen Action generates hundreds of media stories, mobilizes thousands of citizens to participate in political advocacy, and engages hundreds of thousands of voters.
People are the Source of Our Strength
Citizen Action has over 42,000 individual members and 123,000 supporters. They come from all over Wisconsin, from each of our 99 state assembly districts and from all walks of life. They are rural and urban, young and old, lower, middle and upper income, male and female, multi-racial and have different faiths and political persuasions. Approximately 45% are Democrats, 34% Republicans and 17% independents.
- Our members hear from us. We regularly communicate with our members, including newsletters, quarterly phone calls, and monthly email alerts to over 20,000 activists in our electronic, “e-activist” network.
- Our members take action. In an average year, Citizen Action members generate over 6,000 letters, postcards, and telewires on our issues from our members to their elected officials.
We Bring People Together Across Issue Lines
Citizen Action unites over 100 dues-paying affiliates in the fight for a better future for our families and communities. We also work with many organizations across the broader “progressive coalition.” Our partners include the state’s leading labor, senior citizen, environmental, community, interfaith, women’s, family farm, teacher’s, and civil rights organizations and Native American tribes, including: Action Wisconsin, AFSCME, Clean Wisconsin, Hmong/American Friendship Association, Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Voces de la Frontera, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), and the Wisconsin Farmers Union. Citizen Action brings together these diverse groups to form a united front and work together around common goals.
