Citizen Action & Nancy Pelosi Reveal Trump’s Health Care Sabotage

Last Saturday, Citizen Action held a successful news event with U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Milwaukee area healthcare professionals and advocates to fight back against Donald Trump’s escalating sabotage of health coverage. The event featured a number of first-line caregivers and health professionals in addition to Nancy Pelosi. U.S. Representative Gwen Moore was scheduled to appear but was unable to attend due to a personal medical issue.

Milwaukee County Resolution to Stop Family Separation

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, Citizen Action of Wisconsin/Acción Ciudadana de Wisconsin co-op member and County Supervisor Sylvia Ortiz-Velez, along with County Chris Abele and several allies announced their support for a resolution opposing the Trump Administration’s “zero tolerance” policy. The resolution calls on the Administration to abide by the Flores Settlement Agreement, a longstanding Supreme Court decision that details criteria regarding the treatment of immigrant children in federal detention.

Wisconsinites Call on State to Pass Fair Maps Legislation

STATEWIDE, WIS. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court sent the Gill v Whitford case back to the district court, effectively leaving Wisconsin’s unconstitutional election maps in place for the 2018 election. This ruling leaves the onus on Wisconsin to protect voters from gerrymandering for the time being.

Assault against the Affordable Care Act

Despite an all-out assault against the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan, the ACA has persisted. Enrollment in ACA private health insurance plans stands at 11.8 million, including over 200,000 Wisconsinites. “A slight dip in sign-ups for ACA plans” (Washington Post). Moreover, Medicaid expansion continues in 31 states, including 15 GOP-led states.
