Attend a Joint Finance Committee Public Hearing on the State Budget

This week the Healthcare for All Co-op was focused on getting people turned out to the joint finance committee hearings. The Joint Finance Committee is offering a chance for residents in southeastern Wisconsin a chance to make their voices heard! It is also important that we show the Governor that we support his version of the budget at the committee hearings as well.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin has advocated for a number of key healthcare provisions that made it into Governor Tony Evers’ version of this year’s state budget. These provisions included badgercare expansion, a prescription drug accountability board, an extension to post partum care, and easier access to badgercare and the ACA.

Join us Wednesday, April 5th to show support and to get your voice heard at the Waukesha Joint Financial Committee hearing!

Citizen Action Driftless Co-Op Update

Greetings from the Driftless Co-Op!

We had a great turnout for the Fight for Our Rights Rally last Sunday that Citizen Action of WI co-sponsored with Women Win, Planned Parenthood and many other progressive organizations. There were so many amazing speakers! Driftless area co-op member Tara Johnson brought the crowd to tears with her story and I was able to wrap things up with a call out for people to get involved. We know that reaching out to people on the doors and by phone helps win elections. Please call or email me if you can help with GOTV!

Thank you and please feel free to reach out to me!

Citizen Action North Side Rising Co-op Update.

While out in the field Valerie came across a super supporter for Janet. The owner Bryant Evans of Barber shop named Sumthin different.

On Wednesday this week, the Clean Economy Coalition of Wisconsin had their launch party at Lakefront brewery with guest speakers like Governor Tony Evers Mayor Cavalier Johnson and county ex David Crowley. North Side Rising is working on climate justice.

Last week, North Side Rising organizer, Keviea Guiden participated in Girls Day @ City Hall in Milwaukee. Keviea was on a panel of phenomenal women who spoke to  over 200 middle school and high school girls.

Keviea was inspired by the girls who she hopes will be committed to a life of public service.

In addition, Keviea also spoke at the We Energies Stop the Shut Offs media event on Friday opposing the Spring utility shut offs and double digit rate increase that disproportionately hurts Milwaukee’s north side families.

Citizen Action in the News

Citizen Action Executive Directorm, Robert Kraig, was on the Jeff Santos Show to discuss the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, how progressives can break through in Washington, and whether Biden is now the locus of progressive reform rather than Congress.

Watch it here (interview starts @ 35 minute mark of tape).

Although we do not count it as news, right-wing media outlets that traffic in conspiracy theories such as Daily Caller (founded by Tucker Carlson) and Right Wisconsin (which is engaged in a smear campaign in the Supreme Court race) are calling out Citizen Action of Wisconsin’s endorsement of Judge Janet Protasiewicz as proof that she is a dangerous radical. Coming from those who traffic in election and climate change denial, and toxic attacks on Judge Janet and marginalized groups such as Trans kids, we take being attacked by these propagandists as both a compliment and as an inspiration to reach as many voters as possible about the real facts in this critical election.

These people win if not enough of us volunteer for GOTV and restore the Wisconsin Supreme Court to the rule of real judges, not right-wing politicians in robes.

Listen to “Volunteers win close elections” Battleground Wisconsin Podcast

We preview the home stretch of the critical Supreme Court race heading into the final weekend. It’s time for progressive leaders and activists to volunteer and Get Out The Vote for Janet Protasiewicz! SIGN UP NOW.

We review the closing week of the campaign, including an ugly and false Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) smear against Judge Protasiewicz which is further traumatizing a rape victim. Is there any ethical limit that the Wisconsin corporate lobby will not transgress in its relentless pursuit of a Supreme Court that will always rule in their favor? We discuss the opportunity mayor candidate Brandon Johnson presents the City of Chicago for a new direction of leadership, including public safety. We close the show talking about Bernie Sanders and Democratic U.S. Senators confronting founder and billionaire former CEO Howard Schultz on union busting in a headline grabbing Senate Hearing. Will the heroic sacrifices of Starbucks workers turn the tide for labor, or is there more we need to do?

Listen to the show!
