Eau Claire leaders launch support for state Climate & Jobs Package

Last Friday, July 15th in Eau Claire, Citizen Action Northwestern Organizing Cooperative members joined state legislators in showing support for the Wisconsin Climate & Jobs Package, the first comprehensive legislation in the Upper Midwest to meet international climate targets, which was unveiled earlier this summer.

State Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) and lead State Assembly sponsor of the package, State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee), explained the benefits of the proposal for Eau Claire and the entire state. They were joined by Eau Claire City Council member Andrew Werthmann (pictured speaking at the press conference with the Representatives standing to his right), who has championed local, state, and national climate action since he was elected in 2009.

North Side Rising member Willie Wilson supports the Climate & Jobs Package

The Climate & Jobs Package is the first comprehensive legislation ever introduced in Wisconsin or in the Upper Midwest to actually meet the international climate targets needed to avert catastrophic climate change. The plan is a good way to meet Governor Evers’ bold Clean Energy Plan, which provides a framework for planning a meaningful climate response.

Citizen Action North Side Rising member Willie Wilson can tell you a basic truth about addressing climate change. “Tear out concrete and plant more green.” Willie is committed to employing more workers who have been ignored and left out of the job market. Replanting a safer, healthier and more beautiful world.

Which do you prefer, before or after?

Citizen Action in the News

Citizen Action’s Northwest Wisconsin Organizing Co-op held an event in Eau Claire to promote the new Climate and Jobs Package that we helped develop and unveil at the Capital last month. Lead Sponsor Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde and local State Rep Jodi Emerson spoke at the event hosted by Citizen Action. The event drew good media coverage, including a good story from WEAU TV 13 Eau Claire. Watch it here.

Listen to “Sara Rodriguez: The best Rx for Lt. Governor” Battleground Wisconsin Podcast

We interview State Representative Sara Rodriguez, Citizen Action’s endorsed candidate for Lt. Governor in the fast approaching August 9th primary election. Sara tells us about her background in healthcare as a nurse and administrator and why she is the best running mate for Tony Evers. We also welcome new Citizen Action Movement Politics Director, Priscilla Bort, who shares her vision for electing a new generation of diverse movement leaders in Wisconsin. Our panel discusses Donald Trump’s call to Speaker Robin Vos pressuring him to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin in light of the WI Supreme Court’s outrageous ban on ballot drop boxes. Is Trump still trying to win the 2020 election, or is this really about his rumored run in 2024? A new national MU Law poll finds voter support plummeting for the U.S. Supreme Court, but the Hobbs decision has not closed the enthusiasm gap between Republican and Democratic voters. How can Democrats excite our disengaged and demoralized base? In other election news, Bernie Sanders endorses Mandela Barnes while Tim Michels doubles down on hypocrisy with his new criticism of the Fox con deal which netted his firm hundreds of millions of public dollars that could have been used to provide opportunities for working class Wisconsinites.
