Is Your Healthcare Making You Sick?

Have you had a frustrating healthcare experience? A bill you didn’t understand? Numerous calls with providers and insurance companies where things don’t get resolved? High medical debt or prescription drug costs? Do you just want to improve healthcare for Wisconsinites? We want to hear your story!

Join The Citizen Action Driftless Co-Op for a Healthcare Conversation in the Driftless Thursday, Sept. 28th, 5:30 7:00pm. When we come together to share our stories, we start to build the power we need to fix our broken healthcare system. Here’s how one Citizen Action member is taking on a La Crosse Area Healthcare system.

  • 1 Family with multiple medical issues
  • Pages and pages of medical bills and explanation of benefits (EOB) riddled with mistakes, denied claims, improper coding, false and misleading charges
  • Over $8000.00 in disputed charges
  • Over 80 hours of time spent sorting through bills with Insurance company and healthcare provider with only partial resolution
  • 1 Woman demanding the care, benefits and service we all deserve!!!

Citizen Action member Lori Toso wants to stop this from happening to other folks. She has taken on the challenge and dedicated over 80 hours working with her insurance company and her healthcare provider to find out why she isn’t receiving the benefits her family works and pays for. After 5 months and all her work, she still hasn’t had resolution and is stuck with a huge bill.

Healthcare systems and Insurance companies know most people don’t have the time to wait on hold or sift through the mountains of paperwork.  We work hard for access to healthcare and insurance is expensive. Yet so often complicated bills, overcharges and denied claims leave us with high medical debt.  Lori is taking on this fight not only for her family but for all of those families that can’t.

We believe that health systems in WI have a systemic problem with billing issues, including improper coding, overcharging, lack of transparency, incomplete review processes and unfair collection practices.

Take Action opposing We Energies’ rate increase, 15% over two years.

Citizen Action in the News

Executive Director Robert Kraig was on the Earl Ingram Show for the full hour to discuss whether Democrats are stepping up to the challenge of a GOP willing to break the rules to grab power.

The Earl Ingram Show airs weekdays 8 AM to 10 AM on the growing Civic Media radio network. Robert is the regular guest Wednesday’s 9 AM to 10 AM. Station list here.

Citizen Action is one of the lead organizational sponsors of the Climate Conservation Corps, sponsored by Senator Ed Markey and Representative Alexandra Ocacio-Cortez. With the ball blocked by the GOP and Joe Manchin, Joe Biden implemented large portions of it via Executive Order this week. Citizen Action got some national media mentions due to our support.

The gerrymandered GOP Legislature continued to force its extreme and unpopular agenda down the throats of Wisconsinites. This week the groundless impeachment drive continued with a cynical embrace of a fake nonpartisan redistricting plan, yet another refusal to address the growing child care crisis, and an escalation of attacks on the UW System’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. To top it all off, Speaker Vos announced the worst possible Brewer stadium public funding plan, which once again sticks it to Milwaukee. We close with a discussion of the UAW strike and the false tension between good union jobs and fighting runaway climate change, Chicago’s breakthrough on the minimum wage, and President Biden’s executive order creating the Climate Corps that was stripped from his legislative plans by wannabe third party presidential candidate Sen. Joe Manchin.
