To intensify the impact of our grassroots organizing, Citizen Action launched a statewide radio and digital ad campaign this week.

This Monday was Western Wisconsin’s turn to be heard at the Joint Finance Committee public hearing on the state budget in River Falls. Members traveled from great distances to speak at the hearing. Read More

Citizen Action members let the Joint Finance Committee know what was a priority for them in the next version of the Wisconsin state budget. Popular topics were accepting the BadgerCare expansion money from the Federal government, raising the wage to help solve the long term care worker shortage, keeping pre-existing conditions protections, marijuana legalization, fair maps, and increased funding for public education! Judge Lisa NeubauerThe election to replace retiring Justice Shirley Abrahamson is on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Judge Neubauer faces Walker-appointed judge Brian Hagdorn in the election. The ultra-conservative Hagedorn has made news during the campaign for scandalous and hateful writings revealing his bigotry and right-wing ideas.

The North Central Organizing Co-op is 2 years old. We want to celebrate! We will be meeting in Wausau, next Tuesday, March 26th at the First Universalist Unitarian Church, 504 Grant Street, Wausau, at 6 pm. We will celebrate our 2 year milestone with members. But, before we celebrate, we will have the privilege of watch via video conference State Rep. Katrina Shankland speaking to Co-op members and allies in Wisconsin Rapids. There, they will be having a planning meeting, to advance Medicaid Expansion in Wisconsin, and we will be able to see the opening of their meeting online! Read More

Rural America is in crisis. Farmers are overwhelmed by unrelenting low prices and loss of critical foreign markets (Trump’s trade wars). South Dakota GOP Governor Kristi Noem said: “South Dakota has been devastated by the trade wars … .” She stressed “sustained low commodity prices” and the impact on farmers and main street businesses (Politico). Same for Wisconsin. The state has lost over 700 dairy farms. UW-Madison economics professor Steven Deller emphasized that Wisconsin farmers are running up debt and had a “17.8 percent decline in farm income last year” (Wisconsin Public Radio). Michael Schraa failing to honor his promise to sponsor legislation to put some authority and power back into the state treasurer’s office. We also discuss: Congressman Mark Pocan’s threat to sue ICE for records related to Wisconsin arrests last year; GOP Legislative leaders plan to intervene in Planned Parenthood case challenging abortion laws; Wisconsin is now the top 2020 battleground state; and State Sen.
